Adipurush starred Prabhas flopped at the box office, but received a warm response from the TV viewers. The movie, which was based on the Ramayana, got a higher TRP than many hit movies that were aired on TV recently. Adipurush was telecasted for the first time on Star Maa channel on October 29th. It was the same day as the India vs England World Cup match.
Despite the cricket fever, Adipurush managed to get a TRP of 9.47. This was surprising, as the movie was largely ignored by the audience on OTT platforms and in theatres. But when it was shown on TV for the first time, it impressed the viewers with its good TRP. The movie, which was criticized for its cartoonish look and poor VFX, had a negative word of mouth from the first show on the first day.
This affected the box office collections as well. The movie had a huge opening on the first day, but failed to sustain the momentum in the next two days. It dropped drastically afterwards. The movie, which was expected to cross a thousand crores, could only collect Rs.360 crores. It is noteworthy that Adipurush, which broke Prabhas’s hat-trick of hits, found some appreciation from the TV audience.
Interestingly, Adipurush got a better TRP than movies like Veera Simha Reddy and Walther Veeraiya, which were released during Sankranti this year. Walther Veeraiya got a TRP of 5.14 and Veera Simha Reddy got a TRP of 8.83. These two movies were big hits and collected more than Rs. 100 crores each. But they did not appeal to the TV viewers as much as Adipurush did.
Adipurush featured Kriti Sanon as Sita and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana. The movie was directed by Omraut and faced a lot of backlash. The movie was trolled for its portrayal of the characters and the low-quality VFX.
