Janhvi Kapoor has recently released her film Bawal with Varun Dhawan. The film, which is set in the backdrop of World War II, was directed by Nitish Tiwari and streamed on Amazon Prime from July 21.
The film has received good reviews, but some scenes have also sparked controversy. Some people have objected to the depiction of Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp where millions of Jews were killed, on screen. They have accused the film of being insensitive and disrespectful to the victims of the Holocaust. Janhvi Kapoor has recently addressed this controversy in an interview.
She said, ‘I have a friend who is an Israeli. He is a professor at an Ivy League University. His ancestors were among those who died in the Nazi camps. He watched the film and moved by it. He understood our perspective and did not complain anything. We did not show anything that would hurt anyone’s sentiments. It all depends on how the audience sees it. Our intention was to show the horrors of World War II. It is very important that you understand our intention. I cannot help it if some people misunderstand us. Many students told me that they were inspired by my role in the film. They said that they gained courage from seeing me. That made me feel very proud.’ She said.
Bawal is the first film where Varun and Janhvi share screen space. Their on-screen chemistry was well appreciated by the audience.
